Bougainvillea Cocoice, also known as Coconut Ice, is a quick-growing vine that benefits from support as it climbs structures. It has random pale pink and white markings on the bracts. The flowers are borne on stems clad with short thorns and dull, wavy-edged, ovate green leaves. Bougainvillea is an incredible addition to any landscape. This show-stopping beauty produces constant blooms that inspire garden envy. Vibrantly coloured bracts of Bougainvillea brighten warm greenhouses and conservatory borders during the summer. These tropical climbers are suitable for large containers placed in the garden during summer but must be kept frost-free in winter.

Here are some step-by-step instructions for taking care of Bougainvillea Cocoice:

    1. Planting: Bougainvillea Cocoice thrives in arid places that are hot and relatively dry. It needs full sun, or 6 hours of direct light without shade. If you’re planting it outdoors, then look for a spot that’s facing south (if you’re in the northern hemisphere) or north (if you’re in the southern hemisphere). If you’re keeping it indoors, place it near a large south-facing (for the northern hemisphere) or north-facing (for the southern hemisphere) window.

    2. Soil: Bougainvillea Cocoice grows well in well-drained soil with a pH around 6.0. It’s best to avoid using soil and compost mix that contains peat moss.

    3. Watering: Water your Bougainvillea Cocoice when the soil feels dry to the touch. Take care not to over-water it as it dislikes having waterlogged roots. It’s best to water thoroughly and then allow the plant to almost dry out before watering again. In autumn, reduce the frequency of watering as growth slows.

    4. Fertilizing: Start feeding Bougainvillea Cocoice once a week from mid-spring until mid-autumn with a liquid fertilizer high in nitrogen to encourage leafy growth. When there’s plenty of growth and the bracts are developing, switch to a fertilizer that’s high in potash (such as tomato fertilizer) which will boost growth and intensify the color of the bracts.

    5. Pruning: Prune Bougainvillea Cocoice vines by cutting off a third of the new growth at the end of summer.
